Mark of the Ninja Special Edition DLC Coming This Summer!

Mark of the Ninja Special Edition

Ever since Mark of the Ninja was released, we’ve had numerous requests for more. The trouble is, we very intentionally built Ninja to be a complete experience, both in terms of its mechanics and narrative.

But you all kept sending us messages. Then we considered what a “Criterion Collection” version of the game might be like. And with that in mind, we’ve been putting together Mark of the Ninja Special Edition. Here’s what you can look forward to in the Special Edition:

  • A new level, set in a flashback to the early life of Dosan (the ninja’s tattoo artist) that will set the stage for the events that transpire in Mark of the Ninja.
  • A new style of play, which includes a nonlethal takedown ability, and provides a hybrid of lethal and nonlethal approaches to the game.
  • Two new items, one more geared to stealth and concealment and one a bit more direct. Both the items and the new play style will be available in the main game as well as the new level. (more details at a later date).
  • Finally, we’ve added a ton of developer commentary to the main game. All the original levels will feature a number of commentary nodes that discuss various aspects of the game’s creation, anecdotes, at least two history lessons and other behind the scenes info from nearly everyone on the team.
  • Developer commentary has been fully localized for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Japanese. (Which our amazing community has helped us to translate)
For anyone who has already played Mark of the Ninja, we’re hoping the Special Edition will give them a reason to revisit the game with both new challenges and insights, much like you’d watch the director’s commentary of one of your favourite movies.

The Special Edition will be available as DLC on Xbox Live Arcade and Steam. It will be released this summer (price still TBD).

Additionally, the Special Edition will be playable in part at PAX East this upcoming weekend at booth #774. If you’re going to be in Boston, we’d love to chat with you and have you check out the game (along with Don’t Starve, of course)!

Thanks again for support us and our game, and we can’t wait to get the Special Edition out to you all!

Mark of the Ninja now available on Steam!

In case you didn’t notice the giant new image at the top of the site, Mark of the Ninja just launched on Steam and it’s available here!

If you don’t have an Xbox or were just waiting for the PC version, the time has come! Please spread the word to any friends you know that might be interested, as we had a lot of requests for a PC version and we want as many folks as possible to know it’s out there.

Mark of the Ninja Text & Ring Tones

Comments Off

Shortly after releasing Mark of the Ninja, we received this email from one of our fans asking for SMS alert tones…

Klei Entertainment,

I have just recently bought your new product “Mark of the Ninja” and I am loving the game! Definitely worth the money!

I was hoping somebody could point me in the direction of an in-game sound I am looking for. I am looking for the sound that an in-game security device makes after it is triggered and then returns to normal status. It is a computer like alert, that sounds very similar to the Halo:ODST superintendent alert chime. I love the way the chime sounds, quick and clean and thought it would make a perfect iphone SMS text tone.

Is this tone available to the public and can it be downloaded??

The answer was originally no, but that was only because we had never really thought of it before Austin’s email!

After working with our Sound Designer we put together a collection of SMS alert tones. We also tossed in some ringtones made from the “alert” music composed by Vince De Vera & Jason Garner. The files are zipped as .mp3 or iPhone (.m4r) formats. Enjoy

Mark of the Ninja: coming to Steam Oct 16!

Since launching Mark of the Ninja, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about the possibility of  a PC version. While we have always been very vocal about wanting to do one, we didn’t quite have the details sorted out… until now!

We’re very happy to announce that on October 16th Mark of the Ninja will sneak onto Steam! We’ve been pretty blown away by the reception the game received from fans and press. Reading through all of the positive feedback from fans and getting perfect reviews scores on sites like Destructoid, G4TV and Giant Bomb was really exciting for us. So, we’re glad to give PC players the chance to check it out too!

Mark of the Ninja Launched!

Mark of the Ninja box art

Mark of the Ninja is now available on Xbox Live Arcade! You can download the full version of the game or the trial directly to your Xbox right here:

Honestly, we’re kind of blown away by the reactions. We had no idea what to expect, but we certainly didn’t expect this. The game is apparently trending worldwide on Twitter, we’ve had some amazing reviews like a 9.5/10 from OXM, a 93/100 from GamesBeat and a 9/10 from Eurogamer.

We just wanted to say thanks to everyone in the community who supported the game, who came to check out the game at PAX, who Twittered about the game and who told their friends about it. If you haven’t had a chance, check it out! We’d love to hear what you think.

Now, back to reeling …

Two days until launch!

Things have been mighty quiet around here (like you do if you’re a ninja), since getting a game ready for launch is no small amount of work. But we did want to give a shout that Mark of the Ninja will be released in two days on Xbox Live Arcade!

Friday Sept 7 for 1200 MSP. And if you were sent this way from Penny Arcade, welcome! If not, Tycho had some thoughts about the game when he saw it at PAX last weekend.

On Friday, you’ll be able to download the trial or just purchase the whole game here and queue it up to download straight to your Xbox:

Additionally, I (Nels, Ninja’s lead designer) will be doing an IAmA Q&A on Reddit tomorrow at 1 PM ET if you had any question about the game, the design process behind it, Klei, general questions about the industry, etc.

And if you just can’t wait for Friday and need some Klei goodness now, our other new game Don’t Starve is playable in Beta right now in the Google Chrome Store. Check it out!

E3 Trailer & Screenshots

The team at Klei has been working hard to complete Mark of the Ninja. So hard in fact, that we forgot to update our blog after E3. But fear not, we’ve got updates!

We had a great time at E3 and wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who stopped by and checked out Mark of The Ninja at the Microsoft booth. We even scored some nominations for Best of Indies and Best of Xbox 360 from Destructoid.

If you missed us at E3, we released a new teaser teaser trailer along with some new screenshots. We’ve also just opened up a new Klei Entertainment Forums where you can ask us questions about Mark of the Ninja and other Klei Games.

Text Adventure revived

During the transition to our new website, our teaser text adventure got wiped. But fear not! I have recovered it.
